New data from Creditsafe has revealed that September’s insolvency figures indicate that 2,068 businesses across the UK and Northern Ireland entered insolvency, representing an 11% decrease from August 2025 and 6% lower than at the same time last year. However, despite this drop, overall volumes remained significantly above the pre-pandemic average. Construction was the UK’s hardest-hit sector in September, with 334 firms entering insolvency, accounting for 16% of all business failures that month. Additionally, sectors traditionally prone to high insolvency rates also saw notable figures. In September, the Wholesale and Retail sectors experienced 318 insolvencies, while Accommodation and Food Services faced 274 failures. Together, these two sectors represent 28% of all insolvencies for the month. To view Creditsafe’s findings, go to https://www.creditsafe.com/gb/en/blog/reports/insolvencies.html.
